News of yet another principal contractor entering business rescue with tens of millions in debt puts scores of sub-contractors at risk, says MBA North.

The National Home Builders Registration Council (NHBRC) has deregistered seventeen (17) contractors and builders from its database of approved homebuilders following the outcome of the disciplinary hearing processes.

The results of Consulting Engineers South Africa's (CESA) Bi-annual Economic and Capacity Survey for the period January to June 2018 recently released indicates positive news, that the construction sector has seen growth for the first time in six quarters.

The Master Builders Association (MBA) North says that the continuing trend of main contractors delaying payment of their sub-contractors – or defaulting altogether – is a symptom of the deteriorating health of the construction industry.

Working in partnership with Sasol’s Information Management Services (IMS) to develop and deliver an integrated IT solution for its new head office in Sandton, professional services company Turner & Townsend has helped Sasol create a world-class workspace not only for today, but also for the future.

The announcement on the 15 June 2018 that Basil Read Construction is applying for business rescue is a clear indication of the critical state of the construction industry, says Mohau Mphomela, Executive Director, Master Builders Association North.

The gazetting of an amended Code of Good Practice on Broad-Based Black Economic Empowerment (BBBEE) specifically for the construction industry on 2 November 2017 opens up new opportunities for the industry, says Kwakho Mpepho, Education, Training and Transformation Manager at the Master Builders Association North.

Construction and technology law firm and construction adjudication experts MDA Attorneys has reported an increase of 65% in the number of adjudications in the South Africa construction industry in 2017 compared to the previous year.
