Green Building Council South Africa (GBCSA), which promotes green building development in the country, has re-elected Seana Nkhahle as its non-executive chairman and Rudolf Pienaar as non-executive deputy chairman for a second term.

The Green Building Council South Africa (GBCSA) has urged the country to focus on electricity demand side management rather than just supply management, to consider a total energy debate.

Green building is forecast to double globally by 2018, according to new research, which showcased South Africa as one of the top performers world-wide, reporting the highest percentage of green building projects currently underway.

With the Green Building Council South Africa (GBCSA) certifying the first housing projects in the country using the EDGE (Excellence in Design for Greater Efficiencies) residential green building tool, currently in pilot phase, the council is now set for a major rollout of green building ratings in SA’s residential property sector.

South Africa’s top rated Green Star SA buildings and leading green building professionals were announced in the Green Star SA Leadership Awards 2015 at the annual Green Building Convention in Cape Town.

While the ‘green revolution’ in residential property, unlike in the commercial sector, is still in its infancy, rapid strides in technology and increasing awareness of the potential cost savings and reduced environmental impact are making good sense to more and more home owners – and home buyers, says Pam Golding Properties.

The Green Building Council of South Africa (GBCSA) will be joining Green Building Councils across the globe to celebrate World Green Building Week, and has invited all South Africans to take part in the celebration by getting involved in making their homes and workspaces greener.
