The SA REIT Conference is again proving to be the gathering place for the sharpest minds in property, finance and investment, and an exciting platform for debate and interaction.

Repricing of the listed property sector will make it less attractive for unlisted real estate companies and developers to bring their shopping centres, offices and warehouses to the JSE.

Although commercial property pundits do not expect a crash in the sector following the industry’s strong run‚ some form of a correction could occur given a bond market that is unlikely to strengthen further.

New real estate investment trust (Reit) regime will also give unlisted property companies an incentive to list on the JSE as a Reit, says Java Capital director Andrew Brooking.

South African listed property sector has undergone some dramatic changes over the past 13 years, becoming increasingly sophisticated.
