The Coega Development Corporation has called for tenders for the construction of a specialised factory for Faurecia at the Nelson Mandela Bay Logistics Park in Uitenhage.

The tender is for the factory building with offices and includes the electrical, mechanical services and external works.

Faurecia is Europe‘s second- ranking automotive equipment supplier. The Mandela Bay municipality and the Coega Development Corporation recently signed an agreement for the corporation to develop, manage and operate the Logistics Park.

The 216-hectare site, now occupied by Schnellecke SA, Mediterranean Shipping, Grupo Antoline and Inergy Automotive Systems, is next to Volkswagen SA.

The municipality will remain the owner of the park, while the CDC has a 50-year lease agreement to operate it. The park is fully operational, with container handling, warehousing and factories already in place.

Negotiations are under way to bring three additional VWSA suppliers into the park.

The park has the support of VWSA, General Motors South Africa, Ford, the Uitenhage-Despatch Development Initiative and various suppliers and service providers.
