ApexHi MD David Rice says the centre has become outdated and is not up to a sufficiently high standard demanded by the discerning shopper of the West Rand. “After months of planning, visiting the best overseas centres and intensive demographic studies, our team has come up with a design which is modern, attractive and in keeping with the best community convenience centre available,” he says.
Demolition is scheduled to start in mid January and construction of the new development, comprising 21,000m2, will commence shortly thereafter.
“ApexHi will reaccomodate some of the existing tenants that fit the profile of the new development, and will source new tenants for the remaining space. Tremendous consideration has been given to the tenant mix to ensure the new tenant mix meets the community’s needs.
“Negotiations are already underway with anchor tenants and we are confident that we will have substantially pre-let the space in the new development by early 2008,” he says.
We are hoping to create a tenant mix that provides convenient shopping facilities, combined with a healthy mix of restaurants and lifestyle retailers,” he says.
The new-look centre will be complete in April 2009.
