Construction of a new R330-million regional shopping centre in Jeffreys Bay has commenced. The 30 000m² Fountains Mall is being developed by a consortium comprising Atterbury Property, Retail Africa, Prosperito, Orange and Vuwa.
Located off the N2, on the busy main access route to Jeffreys Bay, the fully air-conditioned Mall consists of approximately 120 stores with parking for
2 400 vehicles. National retailers constitute 80% of the overall tenant mix.
Anchor tenants include Woolworths, Pick 'n Pay, Edgars and Game. Other respected national retailers include Truworths, Foschini, Mr Price Home, Mr Price Sport, Identity, Cape Union Mart, Ackermans, Ackermans Home Comforts, Pep, Clicks, Milady's, Galaxy, Legit, Exclusive Books, CNA, Billabong and Sportscene.
“We are extremely excited about the Fountains Mall,” says Etienne Eygenberger of Retail Africa. “Having just successfully completed the Worcester Mall which draws on a similar expanse of area to that of Fountains, we are confident that our successes will be comparable. In essence we are aiming to harness the shopping capacity of an entire district in one consolidated location.”
“For many years Jeffreys Bay was overlooked, but with the development of the extensive Fountains Estate and the Jubilee Jack Nicklaus Designed Golf Estates, this area has recently received unparalleled attention and interest,” says Gerhardt Jooste of Prosperito. “Jeffreys Bay will become the preferred investment destination in the Eastern Cape."
The Fountains Estate comprises an Equestrian & Country Estate, Business Park, Retirement Village as well as a light industrial zone. The Jubilee Golf Estate offers a Jack Nicklaus Designed Golf course with 1500 residential opportunities in phase 1. Both developments are adjacent to the Mall.
The Jeffreys Bay area will benefit from increased job creation as the developers are committed to working with local contractors and labourers. An estimated 435 permanent jobs are expected to be created on completion. The Prosperito & Atterbury Foundations will, in conjunction with WBHO, establish a training initiative for the region.
“We are proud to announce that a building contract has been concluded with WBHO. Earthworks are progressing well and the opening date has been scheduled for 25 October, 2008,” says Mark Mouton of Atterbury Property.
