Max Makhubalo has been appointed chief executive of the Bankseta

He runs his own multinational business in property development and is engaged in various executive management programmes, both in South Africa and abroad.

Makhubalo worked as CEO of the Free State Development Corporation from 2000 to 2005.

He also gained extensive experience in training and development at Sasol, where he worked as a member of the executive team in charge of human resources.

His major achievement was at SA Breweries, where he led a human resources re-engineering process, implementing new levels of performance management and employment equity.

Makhubalo is also the chairman of the Salt Lake Minerals board, chairman of the Mokgoro Developers Board, chairman of the National Finance Committee of the Assemblies of God and a director of Letsete Investment Holdings.

Ian van Schoor has been appointed CEO: marketing and distribution for the Liberty Group. In his new role, he will be accountable for the strategic alignment and implementation of both Liberty Life and Stanlib’s marketing, distribution and sales businesses.

Van Schoor was appointed CEO of Stanlib Wealth Management in 2003, with specific accountability for Stanlib’s Retail and African businesses as well as marketing, distribution and sales for Stanlib.

Last year, he was given additional responsibilities as the commercial head of Stanlib.

Barry Taylor has been appointed CEO of First Link, the broker and short-term insurance broking arm of the FirstRand financial services group.

Taylor replaces Keith Young, who takes over the role of non-executive chairman.

Taylor, who has been in the insurance industry for 39 years, previously served as managing director of Commercial First Link Insurance Brokers. He is also a former head of the Bowring Barclays Reinsurance Division as well as a former managing director of what was then known as the Transvaal operation of First Bowring Insurance Brokers, and assistant managing director of First Bowring Insurance Brokers.

He is a member of the Short-Term Executive Committee of the South African Financial and Intermediary Association.

New aerial survey company the Southern Mapping Company has appointed Peter Moir as its founding CEO.

The company specialises in power-line route surveying, mining surveys, roads and infrastructure.

A qualified commercial pilot, Moir is a founder member and former CEO of Airborne Laser Solutions, an aerial survey company owned by power utility Eskom.

He has built up extensive survey experience in Africa, both on the technical and administrative side, during a career spanning 34 years.
