TENDERS CALLED FOR PURCHASE OF LANDMARK TULBAGH HOTEL
Tenders are being called for offers to purchase the landmark Tulbagh Hotel,
which the owner wishes to sell urgently due to ill health. This provides an
ideal investment opportunity for an owner/manager, says Paddy Smuts, CE of
Pam Golding Commercial Auctions.
"While the property was recently offered on auction, the reserve price was
not met, and after consultation with the owner the property is now on
tender, with a closing date of 18 August 2006 at 5pm. With 1800sqm of
building under roof, this property has tremendous potential, with unexplored
possibilities in terms of extra rooms, retail/restaurant/apartment space or
for use as a club, or other redevelopment," says Smuts.
"The front of the hotel faces onto the main road, while the rear faces
municipal offices, the magistrate's court and police station, making it
ideal to cater for this market with a fast food restaurant. Due to the
owner's ill health, the hotel has been trading very lightly for a year, and
for any owner/manager there is considerable future potential," he adds.
The hotel is charmingly picturesque, situated in the historic village of
Tulbagh in the heart of the Cape Winelands, just 75 minutes' drive from Cape
Town's V&A Waterfront. Tulbagh is a renowned Heritage destination with no
less than 32 national monuments, and only an hour from Cape Town
International Airport.
Listed and featured in top publications such as Portfolio Retreats
Collection, Greenwoods Guides, the AA Traveller Country Life, Good Taste
magazine, SAA Accommodation Guide and Wine Tourism News, among others, the
hotel enjoys top ranking from the AA and a 4 star rating from the Tourism
Grading Council of South Africa. It provides fine accommodation, and is
extremely well stocked and equipped with a traditional British 'gastro pub'
with cosy fireplace, separate private dining room, lounge, professional
kitchen, conference and entertainment complex, two bedroom management
cottage and central courtyard with built-in barbeque. All furniture,
fittings and equipment are included.
