The value of recorded building plans passed by larger municipalities during the first three months of 2006 increased by 31.3%
The value of recorded building plans passed by larger municipalities (at current prices) during the first three months of 2006 increased by 31.3% compared with the first three months of 2005, Stats SA said.

Large increases were reported for residential buildings (34.7%), non-residential buildings (34.1%) and additions and alterations (22,7%).

In the category of residential buildings large increases were reported for flats and townhouses (54.1%) and dwelling-houses (28.7%).

Eight provinces reported increases in the value of recorded building plans passed. The largest contributor to the increase of 31,3% was Gauteng (23,8 percentage points), followed by Western Cape (4.3 percentage points), KwaZulu-Natal (2.7 percentage points) and Mpumalanga (1.1 percentage points). In Gauteng a large increase was reported for residential buildings (89,9%), mainly due to the large increases reported for flats and townhouses (216.0%) and dwelling-houses (58.6%).
