A new 22-suite luxury hotel and conference centre is to be established in Fish Hoek in Western Cape.

This follows the acquisition of the Calders King building by Zevenwacht Properties, the company behind the development of the Simons Town Waterfront and Quayside Hotel.

The building, which was run as a hotel by the Salvation Army, has been standing empty for 18 months and has fallen into disrepair.

According to Zevenwacht Properties it will be refurbished, using the existing structure to create a more modern appearance.

Zevenwacht Properties' Harold Johnson says the building's position at the entrance to Fish Hoek's beach lends itself to a "development of the highest standard".

"We will convert it into a high-quality hotel with conference facilities to attract regular visitors to Fish Hoek," he says. "We expect this to have a positive spin-off on the town as it will obviously create new job opportunities and will also benefit existing businesses.

"All food and beverage requirements will be outsourced to local service providers and, wherever possible, we will use local companies for the provision of services and daily operating needs."
