The Tyris Group is renowned as one of the top contracting companies in Gauteng.

The Tyris Group is a fully affirmative company with 50% of the top management and 80% of administrative and site supervisor posts being affirmative appointments. The policy has been in place from inception and a decade later, The Tyris Group is widely regarded as one of the top contracting companies in Gauteng.

The group is represented in all sectors of the building industry countrywide, from prime residential and commercial developments, to civil contracts for ESKOM as far a field as Nelspruit in Mpumalanga and Paulputs in the Northern Cape. Closer to home the Group has also been involved in the development of state-of-the-art leisure and conferencing facilities such as Kievitskroon Country Estate, north of Pretoria.

Directors of the Group have always followed a policy of reinvestment into the company and this has resulted in Tyris Plant Hire, another fully-fledged division which is able to cater to the earthworks and plant requirements of both clients and the Group.

Chris Erasmus of the Tyris Group’s building and plant division notes that going forward, the residential market will still keep on moving at a steady pace, and therefore he sees much future growth for the company. Having said this however, he notes that The Tyris Group would also like to focus on expanding the commercial division of the company. “This would include office development and factory requirements. In civil works there is huge potential,” says Erasmus.

On the civils side of things, managing director of Tyris Civils, Brendan Adams, comments that this division was started with the objective to concentrate on work received from Eskom as well as doing the civil work, which includes roads, sewers, storm water and water reticulation for the Tyris Group developments. “In terms of residential developments, I believe there is a strong market for civils in existing and future developments,” says Adams.

From 1995 to 2001 the Tyris Group fostered an excellent reputation building residential, commercial and retail structures for various developers across Gauteng. In 2002 the group added Tyris Realty to its portfolio. The main aim of the division was to secure property development and construction opportunities for the Tyris Group itself. Three years later Tyris is able to offer the residential market a full turnkey solution – from sourcing land through marketing, civils and construction to handover of product to client.
The Tyris Realty division, headed by Basil Logan, is responsible for the completion of 500 to 750 homes a year.

Logan says that there have been virtually hundreds of residential developments that his division has completed. The ones that stand out however include the various developments in Sunninghill, where Tyris Realty has completed about 600 houses in different complexes. The Tyris Group is also very active in the Bryanston and Broadacres areas. Some of the company’s successful development ventures include Umoya and Entabeni, Inyanga and Ilanga in Sunninghill, Highbury in Bryanston, Cedarwood and Cedarview, which are situated in Broadacres and the Brompton development which is located in Fourways.

The main focus of Tyris Realty at the moment lies in sectional title developments. For example, this division in conjunction with Inframax, recently launched a sectional title office block in Sunninghill.

The residential developments that Tyris Group have undertaken, which have predominantly been targeted at the mid-level range of buyers, have been well received. The prices in the sectional title developments average between R500 000 and R700 000, while the cluster developments have higher asking prices for the homes at between R850 000 to R1.3m.

The cluster development that Tyris Realty is currently working on is Annabella in Barbeque Down. Later this year, Tyris Realty will also be launching a sectional title office park in Midrand. The resale and growth values of the Tyris Group developments seem to be going well, especially from the time when the home is sold to being handed over. When the property market was accelerating, there was as much as a 30% appreciation in the homes. However with the market slowing down slightly, the appreciation trend is now more between 15% and 20%.

Tyris Realty is known for their developments that offer value for money and better than average finishes. Tyris Realty also select areas with good position and Logan believes that in today’s market, it is difficult to find a similar priced product with the same prices in the areas that Tyris Realty offer their developments.

“We tend to focus on one or two areas at one time. When looking for a suitable area in which to position our developments, we undertake a vast amount of research of the suburb, specifically looking at value and the sellers,” says Logan.
Tyris Realty is also currently offering homes in Belle Woode – a retirement village consisting of 117 homes on the border of Dainfern and Fourways Gardens in Broadacres.

For those wanting to get in on an early slice of the action, Tyris opens its developments to its investor database in the week before launching to the public. If you would like to get in on the ground floor of all their projects, it is advisable to register as an investor and so that you can be informed of all pending projects. This can be done by visiting

Tyris Realty focuses on making the most of real estate opportunities across the spectrum. The complementary synergy between Tyris Realty and the other divisions ensures that projects are secured for the group as a whole and that turnkey solution can be offered to clients should they so desire. The division also undertakes project management services which are in-sourced for the group and out-sourced to clients.
The deciding factor that makes The Tyris Group so successful is a team which is committed to meeting their deadlines – regardless of the challenges. This strong work ethic and dedicated after sales service has resulted in Tyris forging long-term relationships with its clients.
