Statement from Musa Ngcobo, Chairman of the Property Charter Committee of the South African Property Owners Association (SAPOA), on the signing of the Property Sector Transformation Charter, on Friday 17 March, 2006:
SAPOA remains commited to the promulgation of the Property Sector Charter and meaningful transformation remains high on SAPOA’s agenda. The process of finalising the charter has been challenging, but we are confident that SAPOA’s participation in the process has been inclusive and consultative with both large players and SMMEs being well represented. The Property Sector Steering Committee has taken cognisance of the challenges facing compliance by SMMEs, recognised by statement1000 -1700 of the DTI Codes of Good Practice, as they are key to economic growth. We will continue to engage our members on developments in South Africa’s indigenisation (BBBEE) programme in relation to the Property Sector Charter.
SAPOA’s 860 members consist of property owners, large institutions, banks, property developers, property managers and other property sector stakeholders.
