Musa Ngcobo, chairman of the Property Charter Committee of the South African Property Owners Association (Sapoa), said in a statement Sapoa remained committed to the promulgation of the Property Sector Charter and meaningful transformation remained high on Sapoa's agenda.
"The process of finalising the charter has been challenging, but we are confident that Sapoa's participation in the process has been inclusive and consultative with both large players and SMMEs being well represented. The Property Sector Steering Committee has taken cognisance of the challenges facing compliance by SMMEs, recognised by statement 1000 -1700 of the DTI Codes of Good Practice, as they are key to economic growth. We will continue to engage our members on developments in South Africa's indigenisation (BBBEE) programme in relation to the Property Sector Charter," Ngobo stated.
Sapoa's 860 members consist of property owners, large institutions, banks, property developers, property managers and other property sector stakeholders.
In a statement, Norbert Sasse, chairman of the Property Loan Stock Association said: "The Property Loan Stock Association (PLSA) has consistently and continuously contributed to the process, both financially and through representation on the Steering committee, of the Property Sector Transformation Charter ("the charter)."
The charter has received consistent support from our members, which represent the bulk of the listed property sector.
"Now that the charter is signed the PLSA is 100% committed to this guideline for the property industry to proceed on its transformation process and is positive about its role on the Property Charter Council going forward.
"The implementation of transformation and the principles of the Charter is and always will be the responsibility of the participants in the property sector
"The PLSA wholeheartedly supports the ideals driving the charter, with a number of its members having already embarked upon significant transformation initiatives and even more expected in the near future."
