Leasing and sales director of Pam Golding Commercial, Leif Eriksen, has concluded the sale of a cold storage warehouse in Diep River in Cape Town's Southern Suburbs, to a private investor for R6.3 million.
Comments Eriksen: "Centrally situated just off the M5 highway, the warehouse is situated at the end of a cul de sac, providing excellent access for large vehicles. It is in a prime location adjacent to the Edcon warehouse and distribution centre, in an area which provides excellent access to major routes for ease of distribution. Such is the demand that there is very little warehouse space available in Diep River, and essentially no cold storage space available in Cape Town at all."
The property is leased to Vector Logistics, which was formed out of Irvin & Johnson's customer division in 2002, and which is responsible for the distribution of all perishable goods on behalf of major principals such as McCain and I&J to retail, wholesale and foodservice/catering customers. The cold store is primarily used for McCain products.
Constructed just three years ago, the cold store can maintain a holding temperature of minus 25 degrees Centigrade, and is equipped with electrically operated, mobile racking with a five-pallet stack height. The racking allows for maximum utilisation of space and can accommodate up to 1410 pallets. The door is fitted with an air curtain, and the loading docks are equipped with dock levellers.
