In the 28 months since Sotheby’s International Realty (operated by Lew Geffen) opened its doors in the Cape, the company has grabbed the marketing rights for residential property developments worth well over R1.5-billion.

Barak Geffen, Executive Director of Sotheby’s International Realty says, “Developers who are investing millions in building new houses in the Cape have appointed us to market their properties as they want to partner with a prestigious and international brand – it lends credibility to the development and gives the buyers certainty that they are dealing with people who know what they’re doing.”

Amongst the developments Sotheby’s is currently marketing is The Waterkant; a 200-million development in the heart of Cape Town. The 65 luxury apartments and penthouses range in price from R950 000 for a 60m² studio to R4.4 million for a spectacular split level penthouses with uninterrupted city and mountain views.

Also proving highly successful is Strawberry Fields - a R100-million security development in Constantia set on 2000m² of land. Plots, which are all north facing, range in price from R1.9 million to R2.4 million and all have views of the Constantiaberg Mountains.

In Noordhoek, Sotheby’s is marketing a R224-million development that has been called ‘a model for sustainable development’ on the waters edge at Lake Michelle, near Noordhoek Beach. Since coming onto the market late last year more than three-quarters of the 224 plots ranging between 700m² and 2500m² have been sold.

“This development is priced very competitively – from R695 000 to R1,5 million - and offers a superb wetland setting, which is home to an astonishing array of bird and animal wildlife”.

Geffen attributes developers’ attraction to Sotheby’s to the fact that the business has 1200 offices in 25 countries which are directly linked to South Africa.

“We have also attracted developers because the group offers expertise drawn together from leaders in the industry who have decades of experience in marketing developments in the Cape.

“Astra Wilson, who is a core part of Sotheby’s in the Cape’s Southern Suburbs has 20 years experience in developments and has built a towering reputation in the area. It’s this kind of expertise that makes us stand out.”

Current developments include the R150-million Fisherman’s Village in Muizenberg, the R77-million Normandy Village in Plumstead and the R36-million Monterey Place in Newlands.
