FIFTEEN South African and overseas speakers, all of them expert in aspects of influence in the retail industry, will address the Ninth African Congress of Shopping Centres to be held at the Sandton Convention Centre in Johannesburg from October 6 to 8.

The speakers are drawn from the top echelon of retailers, marketers, researchers, communicators and property development and management.

They include Christo Wiese, chairman of Pepkor Holdings, who will deliver the keynote address, and Ian Watt, MD of Old Mutual Properties. Bringing an overseas perspective will be UK-based business adviser Paul Bridle and retail authority Kate Mason, of Meadowhall Centre in Sheffield, UK.

The chairman of the congress committee, research expert Dirk Prinsloo, says the results of the congress are likely to be farreaching as it has gathered not only expert world opinion, but the "cream of SA's highly influential retail industry to hear them and discuss the future".
