South Africa's first multi-modal logistics platform, the Dube TradePort, as well as the King Shaka International Airport will be fast tracked, says Transport Minister Jeff Radebe.
Speaking in his Vote in an extended public committee today, Radebe said: "I have instructed that the key obstacles to the unlocking of the implementation process including the ownership of the land and the decommissioning date of Durban International Airport will be overcome in the next three months.
"This will allow the project to proceed to the private sector procurement stage," he said.
The Dube TradePort had the potential to resolve a long-standing structural constraint "at the heart of our logistics system by developing an intercontinental air platform in close proximity to the nation's hub port in Durban".
"Globally projects like this one are increasingly becoming the norm for countries wishing to increase the competitiveness of their economies by reducing trade transaction costs and actively participating in global supply chains."
The Dube TradePort is the company which has been form to manage the Industrial Develoment Zone which will include the King Shaka International Airport.
