Record attendance at this year's convention

Brian Kirchmann, CEO of commercial property association Sapoa, says a record number of delegates have signed up for the annual convention at the Cape Town Convention Centre from May 12- 14.

Sapoa CEO Neil GopalKirchmann says that for the first time all the exhibition space has been sold out and two international stands for the Royal Institute of Chartered Surveyors and Intuit Real Estate Solutions will be on show.

The theme of the convention is "propelling property into new space", and the main sponsor is Investec Property Group.

The convention will be opened officially by Cape Town mayor Nomaindia Mfeketo.

McCarthy CEO Brand Pretorius and Barloworld CEO Tony Phillips will discuss the challenges facing the South African economy. Dean You Lee of ACMB/Macquerie, Greg Paramor of the James Fielding Group in Australia and Angelique De Rauville of Provest will discuss the listed property sector and securitisation.

Other speakers include Nico Czypionka, chief economist from Global Dimensions, and Clem Sunter, author and chairman of the Anglo American Chairman's Fund. Andrea Brown, CEO of Mohlaleng, will give an overview of the proposed property charter.
