Cash and Carry wholesaler Metro has opened its 13th Trade Centre in South Africa.
Cash and Carry wholesaler Metro has opened its 13th Trade Centre in South Africa. Located in Okavango in Cape Town just off the NI, the giant store covers nearly 11 000 square metres, with 850 square metres devoted to liquor.

The main store carries more than 22 000 stock lines, ranging from fresh produce to electric goods, including television sets.

Kelly Gendall, operations director for Metcash Africa, says the store contains a number of innovations, such as electronic price indicators at point-of-sale points, a self-service bakery and delicatessen counters and double door entrances and exits to counter wind and sand.

It also has the advantage of being located near the massive Cape Gate shopping complex which will be completed next year.

He adds that sales during the opening period of the new store exceeded all expectations, which augurs well for future trading.
