The property is situated in Container road, in Paarden Island.
The land itself consists of 9 215,9 m2 of empty space, as well as a building that could be used as a working shed that is 4 789,9 m2 in size, and the NPA would like to have completed the lease agreement by March.
Manager of port infrastructure in Cape Town Johan Claassen said that the most recent tenant to date waslogistics company P & O Grindrod Logistics, which recently cancelled the lease after relocating.
Claassen added that finding a new tenant is, therefore, a matter of urgency, and that it would like to have the new tenant in place by April.
“Ideal tenants would provide or contribute a port service.
Previously, for example, companies have used the land to store and unpack containers, as there is enough space for that,” Claassen said.
Although the tender document states that the tenant would need to lease the land for a period of ten years, five-year medium-term contracts would be considered, Claassen advised.
He also stated that the land is worth a minimum of R125 000/month in rent terms.
A compulsory site inspection will be held on March 4, while should be submitted by March 16, 2004.
“We need to fill the space as soon as possible, so we will start to shortlist bidders as soon as tenders have been submitted, in order to have a prospective tenant by the end of the month at least,” he said.
The NPA stipulated that it supports black economic empowerment, after starting a policy to attain at least 50% black involvement in its procurement strategies, thus will be taking this into consideration.
