MORE than 97% of the 522 freehold stands at Thesen Islands in Knysna have been sold and more than 130 families have either taken residence or are busy building their dream homes.
And over 70% of the first phase of the Dry Mill Marina apartments, released for sale at the end of December, have been sold and the release of the next phase has been brought forward.
This presents the last opportunity of buying property directly from the developer at this residential estate in the Knysna Lagoon. Located on Timber Island, one of the 19 Thesen islands, the Dry Mill Marina Apartments feature waterways on all sides and multi-level verandas and decks with unobstructed water views, some looking out to Leisure Island, The Heads and the surrounding hills of Knysna.
The developer says they are the first homes in South Africa to offer a lock-up-and-go lifestyle on a private island, right on the water's edge and each with its own floating boat mooring off the front deck. A private pedestrian bridge links the Dry Mill homes with Thesen Harbour Town and its cafes, restaurants and speciality shops.
The 49 freehold apartments all have waterfront positions and each is built on three levels - designed for relaxed island living. Prices range from R2.4 million to R7m, varying in size between 145m2 and 500m2.
Covered parking is generous at between two and four cars per apartment. Buyers choose from a range of high quality colour co-ordinated finishes and fittings in the Thesen Islands idiom. Construction will begin in March and the first occupancy will be early next year.
The blue-chip apartments will incorporate the frame, steel trusses and exposed steel eye beams that are features of the historic Dry Mill. It will utilise components of the old building and the generous ceiling height that it offers, to retain the industrial heritage and characteristics of the original building.
The apartment homes have small, low maintenance gardens with optional swimming pools, and as part of the Thesen Islands residential estate, have excellent security.
Gray Rutherford, marketing director of Thesen Islands, said: "Coming on the back of a very successful project, this presents a one time opportunity to own an unique part of Thesen Islands that offers buyers an unrivalled lifestyle.
We have identified a strong demand for high quality lock-up-and-goa apartment living in a prime position, as can be seen in the success of similar developments such as the Marina apartments in the V&A Waterfront in Cape Town.
