GRANDWEST Casino and Entertainment World is fast gaining a reputation as the hottest conference and banqueting venue in the Western Cape.
GRANDWEST Casino and Entertainment World is fast gaining a reputation as the hottest conference and banqueting venue in the Western Cape. Approximately 100 enquiries are received per week for product launches, exhibitions, business conferences, fashion extravaganzas and Gala dinners.
GrandWest's Events Manager, Angela Jacobson, said that while the complex was only 14 months old, it had already established a conferencing track record in Cape Town.
To date a total of approximately 200 events have been held at the complex, and have ranged from major IT conferences such as the Grand Gadgets Expo to one of the premier fashion extravaganzas in Cape Town - the Nederburg Fashion Show. GrandWest has also hosted many prestigious workshops including the annual SATOA/TNW Workshop in February 2002.
Jacobson said that it was GrandWest's large range of function venues - which include on-site caterers, audio-visual technicians and restaurants in close proximity - which seem most attractive to event organisers.
The famous, historic Grand Hotel and City Lodge hotels on the complex are also a major draw card for out-of-town conference delegates.
While there is no massive multi-purpose venue at GrandWest, the Market Hall can accommodate up to 700 table-seated guests. This makes the venue very attractive for fashion shows and product launches.
The Ice Station has also become a very popular meeting place at GrandWest. Once insulated flooring has been laid over the ice, the venue can easily accommodate up to 1 000 people banquet seating.
GrandWest's outside catering skills were also tested to the limit when they hosted the hugely successful 2001 Vodacom Year End Party for 2 500 people in a marquee situated in front of the Fort.
Increasingly, event organisers are opting for the Good Hope Hospitality Suites, which can be adjusted to accommodate anything from 40 to 250 people in traditional cinema-style seating or up to 150 for a seated dinner.
For those event organisers looking for something different when planning a function, Hanover Street and the Roxy Revue Bar are ideal venues. Hanover Street is ideal for office get-togethers and company networking, and its mid-Eastern style makes it a truly exotic location. Roxy's Revue Bar, with its traditional stage is an excellent venue for theatre-style presentations.
The additional entertainment activities on offer at GrandWest also play a large role in the popularity of the complex as a conference destination.
Angela says that the more a function venue can offer its delegates, the better. Delegates are able to enjoy anything from ice-skating, go cart racing to adult entertainment.
The fact that GrandWest is also just 15 minutes from the airport and the Cape Town CBD makes it an ideal conference and events venue.
