Landmark Goodwood hotel to go under the hammer
A HOTEL developer's investment opportunity will fall under the hammer of auction house ClareMart next week when the Goodwood Hotel is sold.
ClareMart CEO Jonathan Smiedt said he himself has a personal history with the hotel, having grown up in Goodwood and lived there for many years. "I am out and out a Goodwood boy, and very proud of that.
I have such fond memories of living in Goodwood while a child, and attending the schools in the area. My father was mayor of the town, as well as being a doctor there for more than 57 years," Smiedt said.
Smiedt said the Goodwood Hotel was located opposite the home he grew up in, and he remembers its popularity as many flocked to the pub after work and over weekends.
"I can truly envision that with a little bit of effort and work, the Goodwood Hotel will become the hub of popularity it once was.
"This is a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity for a potential investor to restore this landmark." A brief description of the property - which has a 4 500m2 floor plan - includes three retail units, a two- bedroomed manager's home, off street parking for about 25 vehicles, 28 rooms, and a large open plan area previously used as lounges, bars, reception, dining and kitchen areas.
Interested bidders can view the property on Tuesday, September 30 from noon to 3pm at the corner of Beaufort and Voortrekker roads in Goodwood. Bidding will start on the premises at noon on Wednesday
