A strategic pillar of GMI Property Group is developing retail centres with the vision to drive growth, improve infrastructure and enhance the lifestyle of broader communities by creating opportunities for retail businesses to broaden their support. Each property development caters to specific dynamic market requirements.

GMI Property Group was established in 2012 by Gerald Dros and Mike Pfaff. After first gaining experience in residential property development, Dros moved into the commercial sector focusing on rural retail developments. The company’s success grew out of entrepreneurial   flair and an opportunity to bring a comprehensive shopping experience to outlying communities.

The first shopping centre Mahwelereng opened its doors in March 2013, bringing, for the first time, shopping options to the surrounding communities. Thereafter, the portfolio grew exponentially over the next decade. The portfolio now consists of five existing centres and another four in the pipeline. Most of the centres are situated in Limpopo:

Mahwelereng Shopping Centre just outside Mokopane; Steilloop Shopping Centre in Rebone and Tibane Shopping Centre in Tibanefontein.

Fast earning the reputation as a dynamic and professional operation, Sky City Mall is GMI Property Developers largest project to date, currently at 13 000 square meters but with plans to expand to 40 000 square meters. Maokeng Mall is situated in the Free State town of Kroonstad. The latest addition is Mamaila Mall – a convenience centre of 12 500 square meters, anchored by Shoprite, Cashbuild and OBC in Mamaila in Hartbeesfontein within the Greater Letaba Local Municipality, and 46km from Elim.

GMI has a fantastic pipeline of quality projects which include: Mahwelereng Shopping Centre Phase 2, a further 10 000m2, Bronkhorstspruit Mall of 24 000m2 and Sky City Mall Phase 2, an additional 12 000m2.
