Following the success of two existing shopping centre’s in Limpopo, GMI is delighted at the prospect of the company’s first development in Gauteng. “This is currently one of the most exciting developments in Gauteng with 16 000 houses and 16 schools being built by Cosmopolitan Projects and the regional mall being developed by GMI”, says Gerald Dros MD of GMI.

The retail site located at the intersection of the R550 (Heidelberg Road) and the K91 Vereeniging- Johannesburg is a part of the extensive R10 billion Sky City development. Considering the scale of this project the mall will be developed in 3 phases. Phase 1 comprises of a convenience centre of 10 000m2 anchored by Shoprite and Cashbuild. Over time and as the demand grows the convenience centre will expand into a regional mall of 32 000m2 serving 181 000 people in the catchment area.

Considerable interest from key national retailers like Shoprite Liquor, Pep, Ackermans, Tekkie Town, KFC and Autozone not only aims to fulfil customer desires but also offers customer an exciting and extensive tenant mix. In addition to the mall the development also embraces a new filling station which will provide customers with accompanying services. 

Greater Alberton Taxi Association (GATA) will be operating the taxi rank to improve the already extensive transport infrastructure. Bus lanes run throughout the entire development for ease of movement.

Phase 1of the mall construction, commences early 2018 and with a timeframe of less than 12 months expect to see the brand new centre open its doors November 2018. 

It is of significant value to GMI that this project is not only focused on retail prospects but also on the benefits of job creation as well as the immediate communities the centre will serve. Sky City Mall will complement to the existing and successful commercial property portfolio of GMI.
