The South Peninsula chapter of the Cape Regional Chamber of Commerce has put
its weight behind the location of the proposed Film studio at Capricorn
Park.

The Capricorn Park venue - chosen by the iKapa Film Consortium - has been
shortlisted as one of the three finalists by the Western Cape government's
Ibrahim Rasool for the construction of the first film studio in South
Africa.

Jan van der Walt, Chairman of South Peninsula Chamber of Commerce told
delegates at a briefing this week "this is the ideal place for a film
studio, we fully support it and can see it having significant long term
benefits for South Africa."

He said the film industry was booming and the time was right for
development, especially at Capricorn.

"Capricorn Business and Technology Park was conceived and designed to create
a strong "clean" industry growth point in the south of the City. Capricorn
is a world-class modern industrial park with a full service infrastructure
that lends perfectly to the development of a facility such as that proposed
by iKapa," said van der Walt.

The development of a film precinct in Muizenberg will establish a
springboard for job creation and inject new life into the region, fueling
positive economic growth in the South Peninsula.

The iKapa consortium, made up of SA's most renowned film producers and
empowerment partners presented their vision to the Chamber this week.

The project - pitched as a globally competitive film hub - will house film
office parks, stages, education and training centre, services and facilities
for the film industry as well as a drive-in cinema, retro-style road house
eatery and a residential aspect.

Muizenberg has already hosted many international film crews and was
transformed earlier this year into a movie set. Its scenic beauty,
authenticity and quiet, rustic character made it an ideal home for the film
industry.

Olla, co-chairman of the iKapa Film City consortium, said the Capricorn Site
was ideal for the project and was chosen for its existing infrastructure and
job creation potential.

"The area desperately needs an impetus like this, to shape, improve and
economically uplift this forgotten section of the peninsula," he said.

The Capricorn site is fully serviced and has underground hi-tech wiring to
the latest global standards, it provides an award-winning landscaped
environment, which is scenically superb, offering fantastic views,
indigenous landscaped and terraced terrain and an internal lake. It also
offers gated 24-hour security and convenient access only 25 minutes from the
city, against the traffic at peak times.

Capricorn also has the correct zoning and this will streamline all the
necessary town planning approvals, which will allow construction to commence
soon after approval. This will prevent delays and additional costs and will
help get 'the show on the road' as quickly as possible.

Capricorn's Executive Manager, Wendy Hartshorne said the film industry
provided the type of development Capricorn was designed for and iKapa's
selection of it was well founded.
