In addition to this, Jenny has extended her offerings within the new space and has opened her first ever restaurant called Yumcious.

Opened in December 2015 and already a firm favourite that sees customers queuing for the lunch buffet, Yumcious, and the Cooks Playground, now occupy 600m2 on the Cape Quarter Square.  Yumcious takes up 240m2 of this space with the rest being used by the Cooks Playground, which incorporates a cooking school, events venue and filming studio.

The decision to relocate into the Cape Quarter came about because of the redevelopment project currently underway at the Cooks Playground’s previous location at 32 Napier Street, which is being demolished to make way for a new building.

The De Waterkant development will be made up of 11 residential apartments ranging in size from between 66 square metres and 170 square metres per apartment, with balconies adding further size to each. The ground and first floors of the building will be used for commercial tenants and totals 546 square metres.

Sean Paul, Executive Director of Spire Property Management who manage the Cape Quarter and spearheaded the entire relocation process, explains that they worked very closely with Jenny Morris to accommodate her businesses needs and the entire process, including the building and fitting out of the new premises, took three months.

“To accommodate the Cooks Playgound and Yumcious we incorporated what was previously common space into their new premises.  It is very exciting for us to have Jenny Morris and her businesses within the Cape Quarter – the energy that they bring to this upmarket and popular centre are invaluable.”

Paul says that Spire and Jenny Morris have worked together for nearly ten years now, during which time Spire have assisted to relocate her businesses three times.

“Changing times, circumstances and needs have necessitated several relocations but we are pleased and proud that Jenny has chosen to stick with The Cape Quarter over the years.  As with all of our clients, our team go above and beyond to ensure our tenants are happy,” says Paul.

Relocating into the Cape Quarter is seemingly no hardship with the centre having undergone much renovating and retrofitting in recent years.  Included in the list of improvements is a lighting retrofit, PV Solar installation, a tenant reshuffle which improved the positioning and maximised the exposure of smaller Cape Quarter tenants, a neatening up of the centre, with brand new toilet facilities currently being developed in a more convenient location – all of this resulting in vacancies being at an all-time low.
