Record trade highs are being reported at Mpumalanga’s Middelburg Mall, with its shopper numbers growing by an unprecedented 32% over the past year.

Middelburg Mall Expand Aerial

With its trend of excellent growth, all signs point to the 56,000sqm regional shopping centre achieving record high sales figures this festive season.

Middelburg Mall General Manager, Mike Tammadge, reports: “We are delighted at the positive trading accomplished throughout the mall over the past year. By always striving to give our customers a better, more complete shopping experience in a pristine, safe setting that caters for the entire family, we are performing excellently.”

He explains that every December since opening, Middelburg Mall has achieved record turnover highs. Now, headed into its fourth festive season, this regional mall is in a confident position to continue this trend.

Supporting its festive trade, Middelburg Mall will dress up in traditional Christmas décor, and offer a comprehensive holiday entertainment programme. “Our shoppers and retailers are in for a real treat,” says Tammadge.

With robust consumer support, it is little wonder the mall is fully let – with more retailers eager to open their doors at Middelburg Mall.

This month (October) marks one year after Middelburg Mall’s second phase opened in October 2014, extending the mall by 12,000sqm to a substantial 56,000sqm. Besides being an instant success the expansion has continued to boost trade throughout the shopping centre as a whole.

The significant expansion by Middelburg Mall joint owners Flanagan & Gerard Property Development & Investment, and the Moolman Group, added anchor retailers Spar, Cotton On and Dis-Chem to its original anchors Checkers, Woolworths, Edgars, Pick ‘n Pay and Game. It also introduced national retailers Ackermans and Mr Price Sport to the centre, as well as a generous serving of restaurant and fast food outlets including John Dory’s and Chicken Licken. Burger King Restaurant and Drive In also launched at Middelburg Mall in April this year.

Since then, the mall has polished its retail selection even further, adding another wave of appealing retailers that enhance its shopping mix. These include kid’s clothing brands Earth Child, Soda Bloc and Keedo. Sorbet, Final Touches Gifts, Green Cross and Edgars Connect also recently joined the mall, while Pep and Mr Price Home both increased their store sizes to bring shoppers more of what they want.

Middelburg Mall now boasts more than 130 retail stores, restaurants and service outlets, offering a top-notch and diverse shopping experience to residents and visitors alike.

Right now, retail categories showing the strongest performance at the Middelburg Mall include jewellery, bottle stores, pharmacies and fast food.

Paul Gerard, Managing Director of Flanagan & Gerard, says: “Middelburg Mall’s excellent trade continues to grow thanks to its comprehensive range of shops and restaurants that respond to demand from retailers and shoppers alike. By constantly improving the mall’s retail mix we have ensured it remains relevant and exciting for shoppers.”

Jaco Geldenhuys, Senior Asset Manager at the Moolman Group comments: “Middelburg Mall has become a leading regional shopping centre in Mpumalanga. It plays a major positive role in the local economy. It also creates important social infrastructure for its community. We are confident the mall will continue to be the leading choice for shoppers in the region, with a retail mix that is well matched to its customer and its fresh, appealing experience.”

Putting its shoppers first, Tammadge emphasises that Middelburg Mall will continue to look for new ways to improve its experience and increase its appeal for its consumers. This includes being an active participant in its community and its region, and providing an ongoing programme of events, activities and entertainment for young and old.

Middelburg Mall can be found just off the the N4 highway and is easily accessible from the Samora Machel Avenue (formally Fontein Street) off-ramp and Mandela Drive (formally Tswelopele Street) intersection.
