Cape Town has taken pole position as the number one overseas destination for meetings and conferences of United Kingdom-based businesses.
Cape Town has taken pole position as the number one overseas destination for meetings and conferences of United Kingdom-based businesses.

This is according to the 2003 annual "Trends and Spends" survey published by Conference and Travel (CAT) Publications in the UK.

The survey reported that in the year following the attacks on the United States on September 11, 2001, the perennial favourite, New York, was "knocked off its perch" by Cape Town.

The South African city took first place as the preferred long haul destination for the UK meetings, incentives, conventions and exhibitions market.

Cape Town also beat the likes of Chicago, Bangkok, Las Vegas and  Dubai.

"This is good news for our local tourism industry as it proves that Cape Town is the most popular destination for UK buyers in the  business tourism market," Cape Town Convention Bureau CEO Rick Taylor said in response to the survey results.
