Three international automotive component suppliers will soon open up shop at the Automotive Supplier Park (ASP) in Rosslyn, near Pretoria.
Speaking at a media function to mark the first anniversary of the Automotive
Supplier Park, a R200-million Blue IQ initiative, Gauteng MEC for Finance
and Economic Affairs Jabu Moleketi announced yesterday that Faurecia, Grupo
Antolin and Tensile Rubber Holdings have all been confirmed as new tenants
at the supplier park.

Faurecia, a French automotive equipment manufacturer, already has existing
businesses in South Africa.

Its latest investment is a 12 000 m2 building in the ASP.

The construction alone on this facility is valued at R35-million, but a
further R40-million will be spent on equipping the plant with three
production lines, two of which will supply BMW with its front-end and
cockpit, and the third which will supply Ford.

It is expected that the new Faurecia facility will be completed in March
next year.

The second new tenant, Grupo Antolin, is a 50:50 joint venture with the
Spanish-based Grupo Antolin.

Already headquartered in Port Elizabeth, the South African company's new
premises at ASP will be an upgraded expansion of its existing facility in
Rosslyn.

Grupo Antolin will supply roof liners to Ford, Nissan and Fiat, as well as a
semi-modular roof system for easy assembly on the BMW E90 project.

The new premises at ASP will mostly be used for warehousing purposes to
ensure just-in-time supply to vehicle manufacturers.

However, a single production line will be set up to supply the semi-modular
ceiling assembly to BMW.

Tensile Rubber Mouldings, a 60% owned black empowerment company, which was
formed earlier this year through the sale of the mouldings division of
Tensile Rubber, is the third tenant.

The company, which has a monthly turnover of about R1,8-million, supplies
moulded rubber parts, such as engine mountings, steering rack covers, CV
boots and other metal-to-rubber bonding parts to original equipment
manufacturers.

This announcement of the three new tenants brings the total amount of
confirmed tenants at ASP at six.

The other tenants are Lear Corporation, UTi and the Automotive Industrial
Development Corporation.
