Securicor Gray is part of Securicor PLC, an international security solutions business and one of the world's largest providers of security services. It operates in approximately 50 countries.
Greg Deans, managing director of Century City Limited, the developers of the 250ha mixed use development, said the decision to outsource the security operations to a specialist company with a dedicated management team would further enhance security on site and provide a sustainable platform and economies of scale into the future.
"The Securicor group has specialist experience in a wide spectrum of niche markets and its security technology is at the leading edge in global terms," said Deans.
"As Century City has grown so has its security requirements and Securicor Gray, drawing on its international experience, is able to offer us a diverse basket of services."
Security at Century City was previously controlled by Tract Asset Management, a subsidiary company of Century City Limited, with Securicor Gray providing most of the contract services.
Deans said the decision to close Tract Asset Management, which had been formed to strategise the implementation of security services solutions at Century City, and outsource the entire security operations had been taken in consultation with the Century City Property Owners Association, under which the security and other essential services for Century City fall.
He said in adjudicating proposals they had placed emphasis on minimising the risk of disruptive change and as such has awarded a nine-month contract to the incumbent contractor, Securicor Gray.
"Century City has a draft security charter in place and an established methodology and there will be no deviation from our zero tolerance approach to crime that has become synonymous with this development."
Deans said that in the months ahead, the Property Owners Association would fully assess the security requirements of the development and, based on that analysis, would conduct a formal tender process early in 2004.
He said the move would enable Century City Ltd to concentrate on its core areas of business, namely Ratanga Junction, land sales and property development at the business site, and residential property development and sales. - Cape Argus Network
