JSE looses a key person too

James TempletonInvestors have a growing interest in listed property. Yet they find it difficult to get regular information on the 25 property unit trusts and loan stock companies that form the heart of the JSE's real estate sector.

In fact, the only steady research on these funds for the past few years has come from one source: Barnard Jacobs Mellet property analyst James Templeton.

Now they are about to lose that source as well.

Templeton (30) has resigned to take time off to travel. So he will not be in the industry for some time.

The only property analyst left is Len van Niekerk of SCMB Securities. Van Niekerk's speciality is Liberty International, the locally listed UK property portfolio, which at R26bn has a bigger market cap than all the property funds together (R18bn).
