At the event in the Ghanaian capital, Dr Louise Brooke-Smith, Fellow of the Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors, RICS President-elect, signed a certificate reaffirming both institutions' commitment to last November's (2013) memorandum of understanding (MoU).

Under last year's MoU, both organisations agree to work together to promote the need for international standards in property, as well as issuing guidance as to how these can be used and of benefit to local markets.

Members of the Ghana Institution of Surveyors (GhIS) may be eligible to join RICS, through meeting RICS's criteria for direct entry.

In recognition of the historic union between the two organisations, the normal once-off joining fee will not apply to GhIS members registering for RICS membership before 31 July 2014. 

RICS President-elect presents Africa Strategy:

During the conference Brooke-Smith appeared alongside RICS' Honorary Secretary Rob Mahoney, Fellow of the Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors, to talk about the RICS Africa Strategy in partnership with the GhIS.
