Nyanga Junction Shopping Centre

The 10,000 square metre shopping centre, situated at Nyanga train station has some major changes coming its way in the form of new retail tenants and a total refurbishment.

Amongst the new tenants is a brand new Shoprite, Joshua Doore and two Rage clothing stores, one specialising in ladies' shoes and the other specialising in shoes and clothing, a new-look Fashion World. The Family Planning Clinic are relocating to a bigger and better position on the station level.

The refurbishment of the centre is being undertaken by MLB Architects. 'The focus will be on improving the overall appearance. We want to open the centre up and make it more accessible to shoppers, giving it a complete facelift," says Xico Meirelles of MLB Architects.

The scope of work involves repairing the roof, painting the exterior, upgrading all four entrances, creating a new food court, improving lighting levels, the installation of Shoprite as the new food anchor and the upgrading of the security system. A key focus of the re-development has been to improve the customer experience by upgrading the lighting levels, improving tenant signage, directional signage and the overall retail offering and upgrading the security so that shoppers feel safe within the environment. With turnstiles at each entrance, a new security camera installation, an upgraded security compliment and armed response, the centre should become a destination of choice for the community.

Adam Marcus, COO of Fairvest Property Holdings says: "The security of our shoppers and tenants alike is top of mind and has been a priority in planning the refurbishment of Nyanga Junction. We are confident that the upgrade will also attract new tenants and greatly improve the shoppers' experience of the centre, which forms part of their daily commute being located at the Nyanga Train Station."

The project commenced with Shoprite opening on the 24 October 2013 with the balance of the construction work set to start in January 2014.
