The centre, which will house 40 shops, 70% of which had already been "pre-let," would also boast a medical centre and banks.

The construction of a R200 million mall in Seshego outside Limpopo's capital is set to boost job opportunities and lessen transport costs for shoppers, says Polokwane mayor Freddy Greaver.

The executive Mayor Clr Freddy Greaver affirmed the municipality’s full support behind the development of the R200 million shopping center in Seshego during a sod turning ceremony to mark the construction of the mall.

Greaver said that the shopping center will serve as an economic growth facility as it will cut down transport expenses for the local members of the community who currently spend large amounts of their income for travelling to work and to do shopping in town. “It will also assist the unemployed members of the community of Seshego and its outskirts,” Greaver stated.

The shopping centre is a joint venture between two local businessmen Sam Mabotja and Messrs Jaco Nel with the Moolman Group which was responsible for the development of Makro Polokwane, City Centre and Mall of the North.

The new shopping center which is envisaged to be complete by early October next year is situated at the confluence of Nelson Mandela and Polokwane Drive which are the two arterial roads connecting Seshego with Polokwane hence the name Seshego Circle shopping Center.

The director of the Moolman group Pieter Beyers, said that the shopping center will entail about 35 shops including banks and restaurants, Markham, Truworths, Total sports, Rage etc. He said the shopping centre would be a community-based facility that will primarily cater for the needs of the Seshego community. It will also serve some outlying areas like Makgofe, Mabokelele and Mmotong. He said the 15000-square meter shopping centre would be anchored by the 3500-square meter Shoprite Supermarket and 2500-square meter Cambridge Foods Supermarket.

Industrialist developer Janie Moolman said that the shopping center will create 400 employment opportunities during the construction phase and is expected to create around 300 permanent jobs for the community. "A large amount of these jobs will be for the people of Seshego and surrounding areas," he said.
