Paterson & Cooke, one of the world’s leading slurry pipeline engineering companies, has taken just under 1 900m² of mixed use space on a five year lease at Inframax Investments’ Sunrise Park business park in Ndabeni, next to Pinelands, Cape Town.

"The need for a space that could accommodate offices, a large laboratory (approximately 1 000m²), a design environment, as well as ample parking for staff and clients drew us to Sunrise Park almost immediately," said Dr Angus Paterson, director and co-founder of Paterson & Cooke. "We were initially in four separate units in the Southern Suburbs and needed to consolidate our operations into one building."

Paterson & Cooke, as specialist consulting engineers to the mining industry, offer a wide range of services that include slurry testing, pipeline design, and system engineering. They have been in operation since 1991 and have offices in Cape Town, Johannesburg, Santiago, Denver, Sudbury, Vancouver and Perth, and currently have 120 staff internationally.

They have, during their 21 years in operation, designed and implemented many pipeline systems throughout the world, and are now completing the detailed design and engineering of what will be the world's largest capacity ore slurry pipeline when commissioned in 2013.

John Weaver, director of Inframax Investments, said that in order to accommodate Paterson & Cooke's requirements, Inframax combined two separate units to create a large, vibey, open plan double storey tenancy, which has been loosely sectioned into design, engineering, accounts, laboratory, training and canteen areas.

Sunrise Park, said Weaver, has 8 000m² of lettable space on a 1,2ha site, and is widely recognised as a good example of "industrial chic" mixed use accommodation in Cape Town.

"As seen in Paterson & Cooke's case, Inframax was able to take advantage of the building's inherent flexibility to tailor a space to a tenant's specific needs. The Paterson & Cooke occupancy fits in well with the eclectic tenant mix at Sunrise Park, which includes: Capsicum Culinary Studio, Tops Liquors, JDW Pathologists, Beds from Home, The Real Toy Company, Armstrong Sliding Door Gear, the Smollan Group (a field marketing and brand activation company), Tribe coffee roasters, a bistro and a grill/sports bar.

In addition, Sunrise Park has the added bonus of being very conveniently situated, he said. On Sunrise Circle in Ndabeni, it is close to the N2, M5, N1, and within ten minutes of Cape Town's CBD.
