Cell C has acquired, through commercial property services group Broll, a development for its new 46 000m2 head office campus, customer walk-in centre, data and IT centre, and warehouse at Waterfall Business Estate, on the highway, north of Sandton.

The premises are being developed by Atterbury and the project is part of the most ambitious mixed-use commercial development currently underway in South Africa.

This follows the cellular network provider’s decision to streamline its infrastructure and bring its various operations together under one roof. The highly visible, modern and energy-efficient premises are scheduled for Cell C’s occupation at the end of 2013, on a 15-year lease.

“We approached Cell C more than a year ago, knowing that the company had been in the market for new offices for some time,” says Fran Teagle, director, commercial broking division, Broll Property Group. “Finding the right premises is about more than square metres and parking. It’s about the space meeting the tenant’s total business needs. We offered Cell C various options, and we kept their team informed of all suitable premises, from the Jhb CBD and Newtown to Midrand. Once Alan Knott-Craig was appointed as the new CEO of the organisation, the new office requirements were determined and we found the ideal solution.”

The new campus will come with plenty of staff and customer parking and will be set in a pleasant park-like environment with extensive landscaping. The development will help to improve road infrastructure in the area.

The substantial improvements in road infrastructure under GFIP have not only reduced commute times to suburbs like Midrand but would also further promote industrial and economic activity in the area.

Teagle says Broll’s experienced team, and comprehensive knowledge of the products of developers and landlords, made it possible for the company to completely meet Cell C’s brief. It also offers Cell C some 10 000m2 of future development potential.

“Broll’s commercial broking division is unique in the country because we have full national representation, are very active in all areas, and are one of the leading broking firms in Gauteng,” she adds. “We have excellent relationships with developers and landlords and we are able to supply our clients, tenants like Cell C, with information on all possible options. This gives them the widest choice and ensures that they end up with the best solution.”
