The Executive Mayor, Zanoxolo Wayile, hosted a luncheon on Tuesday, 21 February to welcome a high-powered Chinese business delegation on its visit to the Nelson Mandela Bay.
The delegation visited the Coega Development Zone to explore possible investment opportunities.
The Chinese delegation is on a fact-finding mission for purposes of establishing a mega-investment project in one of the Special Economic Zones in the country. The investment, should it materialize, will be of an unprecedented scale with the potential to create a huge number of jobs.
Addressing the business delegation, Mayor Wayile applauded China’s commitment to the development of South Africa and pointed out that Nelson Mandela Bay was "open for business".
"We strongly believe that Nelson Mandela Bay Municipality has the capacity to meet the demands and requirements of the business delegation. We are confident in every respect that your visit will yield mutually beneficial and positive outcomes that will create a business and investment environment that will set the standard and benchmark for others to follow", he said.
The head of the Chinese delegation, Dr Gang Zho said the delegation was impressed by what they have seen at Coega.
"A lot of influential business people wanted to be part of this delegation, we will definitely share this experience with our counterparts with the view to bringing further investment to Nelson Mandela Bay. We look forward to forming business ties in areas such infrastructure development, information technology and renewable energy,” he said.
