Major upgrade gives Promenade a world-class image

CAMPS Bay's Promenade Shopping Centre, which has undergone an R80 million extension and upgrade, has gained 180 parking bays, with the extra shopping space being leased to leading restaurateurs and retailers.

One of the new tenants is the well-known Eclipse Bar from London, which, after extensive research throughout Africa, chose the Camps Bay beachfront to open its first branch outside of Europe.

Summerville Restaurant, specialising in seafood and speciality items, has an aquarium design and is sure to become a Camps Bay institution, says David Solomon, the developer of the Promenade.

'Another new restaurant, Paranga, a joint initiative between Chris Barnard and Paul Kovensky, just metres from the beach, is sure to be a great success,' Solomon said.

Riviera, a Mediterranean restaurant, will serve food from an extensive menu representing the various regions of the Mediterranean.

Sinnfull Ice Cream Emporium, a gourmet ice cream and confectionery store, will open early in the new year, as will John Henry Optometrists, Palm Grove Gift Boutique and Sport and Surf, an upmarket surf and clothing shop.

Estate agents Aida, Cluttons, Proptee, Engel and Volkers and Dogon and Gavrill's Property Cafe will also open in the new year.

Pick 'n Pay has recently reopened its outlet as a 'new generation superstore' after an extensive upgrade. 'Camps Bay is having its best season ever and has established itself as a world-class destination,' Solomon said.

'The ever-increasing popularity of Cape Town as a leading international tourist destination, and the vision of the Solomon Brothers to create a beachside shopping centre rivalling any along the French Riviera or Miami's South Beach, have fuelled this development,' he said.

'Only tenants of the highest calibre were accepted into the centre and in return they have pledged their allegiance with long-term leases.
