The Avenue Hotel, in First Avenue, Fish Hoek, which has been patronised by generations of UK and South African upcountry visitors, is for sale at a price yet to be determined by negotiation

Set to sell in the region R16 million, Rawson Properties are the agents, with agent Bruce Ledger in charge.  An auction house has also been given the opportunity of putting the property up for auction.

Leon Bosman, Rawson Properties co-franchisee for Fish Hoek, Noordhoek, Glencairn, Simonstown and related areas, said that ten serious enquiries had come in from possible buyers and one or two could materialise into a deal in under three months.

The hotel, which occupies three erven (numbers 7, 9 and 11 in First Avenue), has 51 suites, all with their own bathrooms.  These are complemented by a sunroom, a swimming pool, a large restaurant (seating 80 people), a bar, a business centre and a conference facility.  The premises are burglar alarmed and access to the parking area is via a motorised security gate.

"As with all the really popular Fish Hoek hotels, The Avenue is within walking distance of the beach, the catwalk and several good independent restaurants," said Bruce Ledger, the Rawson agent involved with the sale.

The hotel, he added, could become a retirement centre, its additional facilities and position making it ideal for this purpose.  If, however, the buyer chooses to continue operating it as a hotel he will be in the strong position of having access to a client base record that goes back many years.

"This is one of the landmark businesses of Fish Hoek and it would be pleasant to see it end up in the hands of a dedicated hospitality operator capable of maintaining the good vibes, excellent service and friendly atmosphere that always characterised this particular hotel," said Bosman.
