Spurred on by world cup investment and a burgeoning mixed-use interest at Sea Point prompts business to sign lease

In recent years Sea Point on Cape Town’s Atlantic Seaboard has emerged as a vibrant area which is undergoing revitalisation and renewed interest, with luxury apartment buildings and a burgeoning mix of commercial traders which include major national retailers providing residents with shopping and other amenities right on their doorstep.

“Main Road, which runs through Sea Point to Greenpoint, offers retailers a prime business location,” says Selwyn Sharon, leasing, sales and investment broker for JHI, who has just concluded a lease on behalf of Prominent Paints - who have taken 280sqm of prime space at 94-98 Main Road, right opposite busy Adelphi Centre, in order to open a new outlet catering for both contractors and the public.

“This modern, well maintained property is well positioned near St James Road and with its huge glass windows fronting onto bustling Main Road, affords Prominent Paints very good exposure to passing traffic and pedestrians, particularly with Pick ‘n Pay situated directly opposite. The property is fully tenanted with a car hire company on the ground floor and apartments upstairs,” he says.

Sea Point is seeing nodes of improvement springing up along Main Road in strips such as those near Glengariff Road and near major retailers such as Woolworths and Spar - as well as the banks.

Adds Sharon: “While the dust has settled on the World Cup Soccer, this event has further boosted the upgrading of areas around the Cape Town Stadium in Greenpoint which in the medium to long term will benefit adjacent areas such as Sea Point. It has reinforced Cape Town’s high desirability as a prime tourist destination which in turn provides further confidence to those in the retail sector.”
