With the completion of the first demolition phase, which included the demolition of the upper and lower parking decks, Blue Route Mall is now set to commence with the second phase of demolition in early July

The second phase, which begins on July 07, will see the demolition of the back portion of the centre, affecting a number of stores currently in this area. Trading space at Blue Route Mall will subsequently decrease from 48,351m² to 36,356m².

“It is important that we ensure that the Mall and our tenants remain accessible to our patrons,” says Wendy Radford, Blue Route Mall Centre Manager from Broll Property Management.  “Most of our tenants, including Woolworths, Checkers, Foschini, Truworths, FNB, Nedbank, Standard Bank and others will continue to trade during this period.” Radford further adds that the advertisements with all remaining tenants will be placed in the local press.

Additional retail space at Entrance 2 has been constructed and will house Incredible Connection, Vodacom and Ackermans. FNB will now be situated on the exterior of the centre, next to the ATMs.

Various shops are currently being relocated within the centre, to accommodate the changes for Phase Two of the construction. Additional temporary bathroom facilities will soon be situated next to the current Miladys and customers can also make use of the facilities situated at Ster-Kinekor.

“During Phase Two of construction, parking will remain at almost 1,000 bays until mid 2011,” says Radford. “Centre Management encourages customers to park at the back of the centre and has allowed for entry into the centre from this point.”

With the closure of  Entrance 1, customers may now gain access via the following entrances: Ster-Kinekor, Woolworths, Checkers and Clicks Entrances.

“By implementing this plan, we aim to ensure a shopping environment that will suit our patrons and enable them to still enjoy convenience at Blue Route Mall,” Radford adds.
