The six-level Davinci Hotel with a contemporary style fused with a classical accent opens in Sandton on Nelson Mandela Square

Boasting 166 rooms topped by 54 exclusive one, two and three bedroomed apartments the six level structure is crowned by 4 opulent penthouses.

DAVINCI is the fourth Legacy Hotel and Apartment development to be built on Nelson Mandela Square and is also the last as no further land exists in this renowned and sought after area.  Known as one of the most valuable land precincts in the country, DAVINCI opens with a 100% occupancy.

Land preparation commenced in late November 2007 with the extraction of tons of rock whilst construction only started in April 2008.  Challenges were plentiful with the required site for the size of the building being extremely tight. The second element was that because the building boasts such high-quality finishes and was being constructed on a fast track basis, times was taxing.  “In addition the unusual shape (almost oval) and the length of the building resulted in us having a very lengthy facade to floor ratio,” says Bart Dorrestein, Legacy CEO.   “And then of course let’s not forget the extremely high rainfall figures that we experienced in Gauteng during the first four months of the year.  In fact the total area rainfall in January equalled last year’s annual average.”

“The DAVINCI project is one of the most exciting I have ever been involved in and in my opinion, because of the phenomenal architectural expertise of Bentel & Associates and the interior design excellence of Stephen Falcke, has resulted in a building which is an art deco masterpiece,” says Dorrestein.  “In essence the DAVINCI could be deemed an art gallery considering the number of budding and professional South African artists whose work has been purchased and is displayed around the premises,” smiles Dorrestein.   The DAVINCI hotel is hopefully another icon in the feather of the Sandton CBD’s cap.

Because of the fast track nature of the project, large employment has been created and the entire development process has been expediated.  “FIFA is hosting the World Cup from their headquarters based in Sandton and the DAVINCI together with the Michelangelo Towers, the Michelangelo Hotel, the Sandton Convention Centre and the Intercontinental Hotels form the accommodation base for FIFA, its guests and VIP’s.  The DAVINCI is set to play an integral role over the next eight weeks.”

“We are confident that all the required, necessary, comfortable and lavish elements are in place to handle our first large incoming group of FIFA VIP’s,” says Roberto Rosa, General Manager of the DAVINCI.  “We have been planning this for many months now and are ecstatic and proud that this day has finally dawned.  There aren’t too many ‘class’ hotels such as the DAVINCI that can say they opened with a worldwide clientele occupying all their rooms as well as full house of individuals representing most of the countries across the world.  From here it will be an upward stride.”

A rooftop leisure terrace reflecting magnificent city views, houses a swimming pool, health spa, gym and inviting sun deck. The apartment block not only provides its target market with the most exclusive address in Sandton, but also offers urban and suburban professionals a sophisticated lifestyle of privacy, security and exclusivity.

In terms of design and overall concepts, Legacy prides itself in creating totally integrated lifestyle developments that enhance the environment, not only for residents in the building, but also for the people living in the area.  “We feel we have achieved this through the design, décor and furnishings, says Dorrestein.  “This is not your conventional, regular hotel but one that inspires people simply through the overall experience.”

The 50 DAVINCI apartments were all sold with the appealing investment option of placing them into the lucrative rental pool.  Buyers deciding on this preference benefited from having a Stephen Falke design range of interior finishes and furniture which has proven exceptional and valuable.
With the 2010 Soccer World Cup looming, DAVINCI is one of 13 Legacy Hotels around the country that will play official host venues for FIFA delegates and event sponsors.  “At the end of the day Legacy has never lost site of the fact that the World Cup will end and tourism to South Africa and travel in the country will continue for years to come.
