Bay retail buildings fetch millions at auction

A public auction at the Radisson Blu Hotel saw top businessmen in Nelson Mandela Bay digging deep into their pockets to purchase four prime properties in the city on Tuesday.

While the bidders’ names must still be confirmed, a prominent businessman snatched the entire Newton Park Pick n Pay retail centre for R28 million.

The other three properties on offer were the Uitenhage Busy Retail centre, sold for R23,5 million; the Mums building in Newton Park at R8,7 million; and a two-hectare plot in the Greenbushes industrial area at R170/m².
