Two Parliamentary portfolio committees one on sport and recreation and the other on police are travelling the provinces seeking public input to the bill on safety at sports stadiums.
But already the dilatory attitude of the committees to the project has been criticised by other MPs who foresee it not finishing its business until April next year, only weeks before the opening of the soccer World Cup.
Obed Bapela, the chairman of committees in the National Assembly told the house's programming committee on Thursday that the two committees considering the bill should have another look at their programme so the bill could be passed and also pass the National Council of Provinces before the end of this year.
The programming whip of the ANC, Cedric Frolick, however pointed out:
"The bill on safety at sports stadiums is not directly linked to the World Cup." But he added that it would be to the benefit of the competition if it was passed in good time.
The programming committee has asked for a full report to be presented at its next meeting.
