According to ClareMart Auction Group CEO Jonathan Smiedt, his group received instructions from CPvan Zyl, of Progressive Administration, the joint provisional liquidator in the matter of Lakeside City Trading, the holding company, which owned the Canterbury premises in Cape Town.

On auction is 35 Brickfield Road, in Woodstock, a 5800m² warehouse and factory area under a vaulted roof with air extraction and staff facilities. The property includes 1200m² of A-grade office space, which includes a boardroom. Ample off-street parking and roller access to two points are provided.

According to Smiedt, the movable assets, which include vehicles, factory equipment and furniture, will be sold separately on the same day.

Canterbury SA applied for voluntary liquidation in January this year and Canterbury Europe was placed under administration in July.

According to reports in the international press, British clothing and footwear retailer JDSports Fashion plc stepped in to save the 100-year-old brand with its acquisition of the rugby brand for £6.5- million (R80-million).

JD purchased the key trading assets and trade of Canterbury Europe Ltd along with the global rights to the Canterbury, and Canterbury of New Zealand, brands, from the firm’s administrators.

The investment property and movables will be auctioned at 35 Brickfield Road, Woodstock, Cape Town today at 12pm.
