This is the third Rezidor hotel in Cape Town - the two others being the Radisson SAS Waterfront Hotel and the Park Inn Greenmarket Square - and the group’s 6th property in South Africa and 21st property in Africa. The signing brings the company’s overall pipeline to new heights: EMEA-wide, Rezidor now has 350 hotels in operation and under development.
The Radisson Hotel Blaauwberg is being built on a landmark site on Beach Road, Blaauwberg across the road from beach offering guests a picture postcard image of Africa’s most beautiful city with the world famous Table Mountain presiding over it. Robben Island, once home to Nelson Mandela and today a World Heritage Site, lies against a backdrop of spectacular sunsets from the hotel. Besides 144 themed first class rooms the Radisson Hotel Blaauwberg will offer six state-of-the-art conference and meeting facilities, an award winning contemporary bar and restaurant concept, a destination cocktail bar, an outdoor swimming pool, and a fitness area and sundeck.

Passive design, energy saving devices, environmentally friendly materials and methods and recyclability are our main design criteria”. Vermiculture - the process of culturing worms to decompose organic food waste, turning the waste into a nutrient-rich material capable of supplying necessary nutrients to help plant growth - will also be utilised as part of the 22 'green' interventions on site - others including including the aplication of grey water, solar and wind technology - say Axion Architects.
Blaauwberg is recognized as the fastest growing municipal area in South Africa and lies on the west coast of Table Bay, Cape Town, 25 km from the central business district and 30 minutes to Cape Town International Airport. Blaauwberg has a number of superb bays and beaches with spectacular Table Mountain views suitable for surfing, swimming and sunbathing. A number of tourist attractions on the hotel’s doorstep include: Rietvlei Nature Reserve, one of the largest inland wetlands in Southern Africa; Paarden Eiland Wetlands; SANCCOB – The South African National Council for the Conservation Of Sea Birds; and whale watching.
