Mini-budget: A tough balancing act

Finance Minister Tito Mboweni faces a tough juggling act this afternoon, when he presents the 2020 Medium Term Budget Policy Statement (MTBPS) in Parliament.

In this report, we discuss the 2nd quarter 2020 results of the rental market component of our FNB Commercial Property Broker Survey, which surveys a sample of commercial property brokers in and around the 6 major metros of South Africa, namely, City of Joburg and Ekurhuleni (Greater Johannesburg), Tshwane, Ethekwini, City of Cape Town and Nelson Mandela Bay.

Growthpoint Properties (JSE: GRT) reported distributable income growth of 2.2% to R3.2bn, an increase in dividends per share of 0.2%, and a 14.9% increase in group property assets to R160.2bn for its six-month period to 31 December 2019.

Apart from the tax reprieve announced by Finance Minister Tito Mboweni in the National Budget, with no major tax increases and even personal income tax relief across the board.
